Last week's Emerging Technologies class was amazing! Having been in the IT cohort for the last two years, it was amazing to me the number of new technologies that have come about that weren't around in 2006. I listed most of them a few posts ago, but I wanted to recap on a few of them I found to be quite useful.

Twitter is a great program to keep others abreast of information. If you are a coach and need to let your team know that practice is cancelled, before you had to track down all of your players and let them know individually. Now with cell phones being one item that all humans seem to have with them 24 hours a day along with your drivers license and ATM card, you can set up Twitter to text message all of your players at the same time. One message, one result.

Jing will be a perfect addition to the programs I currently use. It allows you to record and capture your operations on your screen and save them as movie files with sound. It will allow me to make small "how to" movies that I can post to this blog, to my web site, or on a CD to let students, parents, and other teachers explore and use their computers.

21 Classes

This looks like a great blog tool as it allows the students to fully encompass the process of blogging. It also seems like a good thing as there is no "blog" mentioned in the web address and this may allow it to be bypassed by a normal school filter.

My Week at UNI (Week One)

Some of the things we covered this week in my class:

Jing Project

Ning

Blogging and Blogs

iMovie and iPhoto

PhotoBooth

Snapz Pro

WOOT

Widgets

Google Docs

Twitter

Garage Band

Voicethread

Podbean/Making a Podcast

How could I use Voicethread?

One of the activities I do with the first graders is teach them how to use the Microsoft Paint program. Once I have give them the basic instructions on using the software, I have them choose a favorite animal and draw using the tools . I could then post the pictures to Voicethread and have the fist graders go in, look at the pictures, and respond to them.

A Week Away...

Hey everyone. It's May and school is still a week away from being finished for the summer. It's raining, and I have a TON of work to do for both my job and my master's degree. Amazingly, I am still sane. So I will be back here soon with more to add.
